Commuting and Relaxing!

In the early weeks of our move we were only staying in Yungaburra for a few days each week, spending most of the time in Cairns, where lots of finishing jobs and cleaning needed to be done before the house could go up for sale. (I will make a special post about Harris Street with the last pictures taken).
So every time we would come up again we would have a full load in Sven's van, and the trailer (still behind the Subaru), transporting everything from small furniture, boxes and plants. Then unload everything, relax  (or work on some other projects) and go down again to pick up "another load". We managed 7 big loads in 7 weeks...
Then Joel helped us over a weekend, to move up heavier and bigger furniture (including our bed and a sofa, so we would be more comfortable), and heaps… of boxes in his Ford Transit.
We so appreciated his help, Thanks Joel!
We then took the time  to enjoy his company for a couple of days. We launched the tinny in the lake (where it now parks 100m from our land and we can hop in anytime we want) .
We then went for a peek at our neighbours' houses from the lake.

Lots of nice properties but we think ours is the best!

And it wouldn't have been fair if we didn't take him skurfing.

Here I come

Sven and Joel had some fun shooting with bow and arrows… You can only do this when you have a large block of land and no neighbours… Yes! We qualify.

That night we had a big bon-fire with all the dead branches that the previous owners had left lying around the place, and gazed at the stars… Magical!

We eventually stayed longer in Yungaburra than in Cairns, and couldn't wait to come back home after going once a week (and a day trip only) to check on Harris Street.

Home sweet home!

Third priority - Ride on mower

A week after we moved in, it was time to mow the grass. After all the rain we had in the wet season it was growing rapidly.
So armed each with a normal mower, we charged down in our "magic forest" and started mowing. Let's take a minute to explore!

A glimpse of the house from our "magic forest"
The birds love it just as much as we do! Beside "Digger" and "root bags", which you have already met  in one of my previous post, we share our "magic forest" with....

The grey currawong

Plover

We call it quail

Kookaburra

Lorikeets

And the King Parrot. Isn't he stunning?
 Just to name a few...

However, we didn't realise it would take us that long to do only a third of the whole property!
After an hour and a half of non-stop mowing, we took a break and talked about buying a ride on mower to make the job easier.
The next day we went to Atherton and bought a "Greenfield" (Australian made!) which was delivered the same afternoon.

What a beautiful little number!...
Sven happily jumped on it, whizzing through the block like a natural.

And off he goes
Of course I had to have a go as well...

Yeehaah!
Even Flicka enjoyed a ride on it as you can see!

It takes just over an hour now to do something that we would have dreaded doing with normal mowers...

With this chore out of the way, we celebrated Sven's birthday.

Happy Birthday Viking!

I wish... I wish...

I edited this  post on 11th September, but couldn't bring myself to publish it until today...

Wednesday 7th September - The worst has happened. Flicka died during the night, after staying at the vet for 3 days and  treated with paralysis tick  anti venom. Her little heart couldn't cope with that nasty virulent poison. She died peacefully without any pain. We picked her up from the vet and laid her lifeless little body in our magic forest, where she used to love exploring, sniffing and playing with lizards and hunting for rats and birds.
I'm going to miss her. We're going to miss her. I wish the time  could go backward instead than forward. I know it's impossible . We, humans are so selfish. We only think about ourselves, OUR pain…  Dogs are always so  loyal and stick by you and try to comfort you no matter what.
She even tried to do just that when we took her to the vet. I had her on my lap supporting her little head and she was looking at me with her big round eyes like she was saying. "Don't worry mummy I know you're sad but you can't do a thing about this. Everything will be right, you'll see..." She was trying to comfort me! Even through her pain.
At least the weather has improved and the sun is shining. She's had a wonderful time in the last 3 months. Watching over her property, like us, enjoying looking at the view, lying in the grass in the sun. Chasing the birds and going rat hunting with Sven. Barking at the cows next door. Then digging a hole for herself right at the entrance of the veranda and curling up in a ball to keep warm, refusing to come inside in the warmth. She loved it up here. We should have taken her up earlier so she could have enjoyed it for longer.
I keep waking up every night and try to find her on our bed to scratch her belly like I used to…  but then remember that she won't be there any longer.
Heartache  is something hard to cope with. I wish I had taken more photos of her when she was fit and healthy. I wish... I wish!
But the past is the past. We can't wind the clock back. We have to look ahead at the future.
Every day the sun will rise, the birds will sing, the seasons will follow,  life will go on. Time will heal but we will never forget her. Her funny little under bite... She was so adorable and loving!
R.I.P. Flicka!

Flicka as we want to remember her ♥

                                                              She could run!................
